A few years ago I decided to build a capsule wardrobe. I was curious and so I tried it out. It started off as a way to prune down my material items and get rid of clothes that were in excess, but then it turned into something much more and even created space for me to find my true self through minimalism. This experiment pushed me to start buying better quality products based on what “sparked joy” instead of impulse purchasing fashion pieces that lacked meaning. Lastly, it inspired me enough to turn this interest into a sustainable business where I’ve been able to live my dream while helping others do the same while living their passions through the minimalist fashion movement. Keep reading to see how many items and what I actually bought/get in a year. Below are the items that I added to my capsule wardrobe in 2021.

Capsule Wardrobe 2021 Edit

You might be wondering what it was that I had decided to purchase. In truth, I decided to invest only in three products, the remaining products were attachments my business plan required of me, and two were gifted. Not much right? I keep adding items to my life with extreme precaution so that they don’t take over and lessen the quality of life at home. It’s not easy with a sociable toddler and a schoolgirl running around! Now as I look back on it, instead of adding items each year just to stay trendy, I’ve also found an easier (and more cost-effective) way to dress by making a small effort to have a minimalist wardrobe that doesn’t need glittery additions every now and then. The same goes for home decorating: stick to your favourite recipes and you will soon find yourself thinking about rearranging them less often!

What I bought

Bra –  This spring I decided to invest in this gorgeous lacy Arket bra. It has a great fit, and was very comfortable, making it an absolute staple for my underwear drawer all year around. It could seem like an unimportant purchase but I was really pleased with both the quality of this Arket bra and with the price. The fit is true to size and it fits so well that I even want another one!

Shopping Basket – I have been searching for the perfect basket for a long time and I think I may have finally found it! French fashionistas are often seen carrying baskets big enough to fit everything they might need. Now, I personally love the crates carried by Parisian women during markets as they had more square inches per volume which you rarely find in regular baskets. It’s also less common to find one with shorter leather handles but they’re more comfortable when there is something heavy inside so that you don’t get any weird bruises on your arm while you carry it around! And the best thing is that is handmade in Morroco.

Jeans – the last thing I bought was a pair of jeans. Even though I got them just a few weeks ago, I’ve worn them several times and got numerous compliments on them. They fit perfectly around my waist and look great with boots during the cooler months. Definitely, a timeless purchase!

Pret a Collection Basic Items

At the beginning of spring, I decided to follow my creative urge and start a fashion brand. The pieces are designed by me in collaboration with a wonderful expert seamstress to craft them into masterpieces. It is made up of basics so as to make it possible for every one of my clients to mix and match different pieces while creating their own unique style with some accessories. All the pieces are handmade, unique and made to order. I wear all my clothes daily which makes me feel fabulous, especially when I receive lots of compliments on their quality.

Trench Coat – was the first product made in spring. It was created from a need to replace an old Zara trench coat, that I outgrown after two kids. I’ve been wearing this coat since I brought it from the maker.

Blazer – I created it in a need of a modern classic oversized blazer. It’s another piece that I dreamed about for a while. It is a perfect blazer to wear on its own or layer under the trench coat. It looks great with tops, shirts, knits and a t-shirt. Definitely a versatile piece of a capsule wardrobe.

Shirt – basics need to be replaced more often than investment pieces like coats and blazers. This shirt was created from the need for higher quality basis shirt but in an oversized fit.

Tops – another basic item, that can be worn all year round. It was also created from the need for a better quality item, that is soft on the skin and lightweight for hot summer days.

The Gifted Items

I also got two roll necks. It took me quite some time to find the best-knit roll necks as my old one started to fall apart. This cooperation with Maximilian boutique was better than I could have dreamed of!

Summary Of Capsule Wardrobe 2021

It all started with an experiment, but that doesn’t mean my capsule wardrobe falls short in impact or meaning. In fact, it completely changed my whole lifestyle around – from what I buy and wear to other different things besides fashion too like how I view my finances and more. Overall, living a minimalist life means summoning the courage for something new regardless of your present relationship status with consumerism. The best way to get there? Start small. For example: first try finding ways to reduce how much you spend before cutting back on how often you shop!
